Neck stiffness can be a common complaint, often caused by poor posture, stress, or muscle tension. Incorporating some gentle stretches into your routine may help alleviate discomfort and improve mobility. You may remember we discussed this in a previous post which you can find by clicking HERE. In this blog post, we will revisit our previous blog on neck stretches and explore a few other simple stretches that can provide relief.. Remember, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional if you have severe or persistent neck pain. STRETCHES

  1. Neck Tilt: The neck tilt stretch targets the muscles on the sides of your neck and can help relieve tension and stiffness.

  • Start by sitting or standing with a straight back.

  • Slowly tilt your head to one side, bringing your ear closer to your shoulder.

  • Hold the stretch for 15-30 seconds, feeling a gentle stretch on the opposite side of your neck.

  • Repeat the stretch on the other side.

  • Aim to perform this stretch 2-3 times on each side.

  1. Neck Rotation: Neck rotation stretches are effective in releasing tension in the neck and improving range of motion.

  • Begin with a straight back in a seated or standing position.

  • Slowly turn your head to one side, trying to align your chin with your shoulder.

  • Hold the stretch for 15-30 seconds, feeling a gentle stretch through the neck.

  • Repeat the stretch on the other side.

  • Perform this stretch 2-3 times on each side.

  1. Neck Retraction: The neck retraction exercise targets the muscles at the front of the neck and can help improve posture and reduce stiffness.

  • Sit or stand with good posture.

  • Gently tuck your chin in, creating a double chin.

  • Hold the position for 5-10 seconds.

  • Repeat the movement 5-10 times.

  1. Shoulder Rolls: Shoulder rolls can help release tension in the neck and upper back, which can contribute to neck stiffness.

  • Sit or stand with your back straight.

  • Shrug your shoulders up towards your ears.

  • Roll your shoulders backward in a circular motion.

  • Repeat the shoulder rolls 10 times, then reverse direction for another 10 rolls.
